# Changing Shopify Plan

## What happens when your Shopify plan changes? <a href="#id-1-what-happens-when-your-shopify-plan-changes" id="id-1-what-happens-when-your-shopify-plan-changes"></a>

OPTIS Color Swatch uses a **pay-as-you-grow pricing model**, meaning your app plan is linked to your Shopify plan.

When your Shopify plan changes, **1 of 3 things will happen**:

1. Nothing changes and no action is required
2. You’ll need to approve an updated subscription at the next billing cycle
3. You’ll need to approve a subscription immediately

Which case applies depends on **your user type** and **how your Shopify plan changes**.

#### ⭐️ If you are a grandfathered user (installed the app before Jan 15, 2026) <a href="#id-3-if-you-are-a-grandfathered-user-installed-the-app-before-jan-15-2026" id="id-3-if-you-are-a-grandfathered-user-installed-the-app-before-jan-15-2026"></a>

Grandfathered users can continue using the app normally **until a Shopify plan change happens**.

**When you change your Shopify plan**

* A **subscription approval is required immediately**

**What you need to do:**

* Open the app
* **Approve the subscription** to continue using OPTIS Color Swatch

**What stays in your favor:**

* You’ll receive a **lifetime 15% monthly discount**
* The **first approval includes a 30-day free trial**
* A **7-day grace period** applies if approval is required (explained below)

#### ⭐️ If you are a regular user (not grandfathered) <a href="#id-3-if-you-are-a-regular-user-not-grandfathered" id="id-3-if-you-are-a-regular-user-not-grandfathered"></a>

For regular users, what happens depends on whether your **app plan for the next billing cycle changes or not**.

**1/ App plan stays the same for the next billing cycle**

**Example:** Basic → Grow → Basic

In this case:

* ✅ **No action is required**
* Your app plan for the next billing cycle remains unchanged
* Billing continues as usual and the app stays active

You can safely continue using the app without doing anything.

**2/ App plan changes for the next billing cycle**

**Example:** Basic → Grow

In this case:

* ✅ **Action is required at the start of the next billing cycle**
* You’ll need to: Open the app → **Approve the updated subscription** to continue using the app when the billing cycle renews.

**3/ Switching from a free plan to a paid tier**

**Example:** Development store → Shopify Basic

This is treated differently because your store becomes a live, paid store.

In this case:

* ✅ **Action is required immediately**
* You must: Open the app → **Approve the subscription** to continue using OPTIS Color Swatch before 7-day grace period ends.

#### What applies in all cases above <a href="#id-3-what-applies-in-all-cases-above" id="id-3-what-applies-in-all-cases-above"></a>

1. A **7-day grace period** applies whenever subscription approval is required:

When a subscription approval is required, you’ll have **7 days** to approve it. During this time, the app stays active and your storefront setups continue working. If the subscription isn’t approved after 7 days, the app will be temporarily deactivated until approval.

2. The **first time you approve a subscription**, a **30-day free trial** is applied. You won’t be charged until the trial ends.
3. We’ll notify you via Email when the subscription approval is needed.
